What if eyes were orthographic?

Yesterday at work we had some small discussion, involving something about projecting things behind the near plane onto the near plane (don’t remember what exactly). It went onto “now that you look at something, you see this, and this is because the eyes are perspective, not orthographic, and …”. And then it struck us:

What if the eyes were orthographic?

Think about it…. that would be totally weird!

he, when I was a kid I thought that since the eyes were spherical, the projection had to be spherical, but since I was writting a doom-style renderer, what I actually implemented was cylindrical projection. that was totally weird!

Each photosensor sees only points of its exact size. Rotozoom live! :D

if eyes were ortographic we would not be able to apply LOD techniques to our engines :( And that would be a dissaster…
